95 South

Jacksonville rap group 95 South were one of the pioneers and mainstays of the Duval-variant of the Bass sound that dominated Florida and Southern airwaves in the late 1980s and much of the 1990s, and they scored a major hit with 1993’s Whoot There It Is–a song that many who were around and partying at the time consider one of signature hits of the era.

Along with the 69 Boyz, Quad City DJs, and CC Lemonhead and other artists, 95 South significantly raised the area’s profile on the rap music scene.

Today, 95 South comprises a duo of  Mike Mike (Michael Phillips) and Daddy Black (Carlos Spencer).

Flash back and take a peek at Hip Hop North Florida style 1993.
