Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell was arrested Saturday evening, and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct after a pizza delivery woman told police he pointed a gun at her.
Few other details are available, but the hungry ball player is notable for being the only Major League Baseball player this season brave enough to take a knee as a show of solidarity with NFL players who’ve done the same.
Maxwell, 26, claimed last week that he was denied service at an Alabama restaurant due to him kneeling for pro baseball games. The restaurant manager later disputed Maxwell’s account.
Maxwell and Colin Kaepernick, who was the first NFL player to take a knee during the anthem last year, have become friends, according to Maxwell.
Both men have become heroes to many while generating intense hatred from some others.
Presently, Maxwell is in the Maricopa county jail with no bond, awaiting a bail hearing.
