Its all hands on deck as the Democratic Party goes all-in for Atlanta mayoral candidate Keisha Lance-Bottoms. In a recent robocall, former congressional candidate Jon Ossoff implores voters to turn out and vote for Bottoms, “The Democratic Candidate”.
Ossoff is a popular figure in Georgia politics, and became a political rock star earlier this year after giving Republican Karen Handel more than she asked for in the hotly contested 6th congressional race in Georgia–a seat long held by Republicans.
The race attracted national attention and Ossoff broke fundraising records after a number of big-name Hollywood celebrities chipped in to try to help him win.
Ossoff lost the race but built a political machine along the way.
Ossoff also burnished his image in the minds of millions of metro Atlanta voters.
Ossoff is widely expected to make another run at office, and is viewed as a formidable candidate for any office.
Ossoff’s support comes after Norwood scored a number of surprise endorsements this week, including from former Mayor Shirley Franklin and former mayoral candidates and City Council Presidents Caesar Mitchell and Cathy Woolard.
Norwood is widely viewed as a Republican. She has yet to admit it however.
Over the summer, she was criticized for refusing to condemn some of the more controversial comments made by President Trump–a very unpopular name in Atlanta.
According to voter information resources, Atlanta is 80% Democrat.
Norwood and Bottoms meet for their final debate on Sunday.
The runoff election is December 5th but early voting is underway.
