No Ratings Jump For Eminem’s SNL ‘Oldies But Goodies’ Performance

Eminem’s performance last night on Saturday Night Live got folks talking on social media. The rap legend’s set earned mostly positive reviews but some fans thought Eminem looked ancient and awkwardly out of place during the performance.

Some even took to Twitter to ask Em to permanently retire, accusing him of being “lost” in the new era of Migos, Future, Black Youngsta, 21 Savage and Chance The Rapper–who happened to be the host of last night’s show.

Em’s new song featuring Beyonce, Walk On Water, got part of the criticism.

It wasn’t a bad performance, although I think he could have invited Chance to do something with him to make things more memorable. In any case, that ode to the good old days maybe wasn’t what everyone expected–or wanted, especially since Eminem reportedly has a new album that’s about to drop reportedly any day now.

Another surprise: Em’s appearance on the show didn’t move the needle much in the ratings. The numbers reveal that last night’s show drew a 4.3 household Live+Same Day rating in metered markets and a 2.0 in adults 18-49 in markets with local people meters, according to Deadline.

That’s almost identical to last week’s show, which featured Hillbilly singer Taylor Swift and reality TV personality Tiffany Haddish.

Em’s performance was a medley of old hits from a long time ago and of course, not everybody was appreciative:
