ALL of the members of Xscape–including Kandi Burruss, thankfully–performed at the inauguration of Keisha Lance-Bottoms, who won election as Atlanta’s 60th Mayor in a very bitter and closely contested election last month.
The chart-topping old skool group, who are in and out on fully reuniting, performed their signature hit “Understanding”, as Bottoms–rumored to be a huge Xscape fan–officially became Atlanta’s second female mayor.
Burruss took to social media to say she and the rest of the ladies wanted to honor the new mayor with their performance at the historic event.
“Yesterday my girls & I wanted to honor our new Mayor”, Burrus said, and she also shared video of the performance, of which Kandi said her husband, Todd Tucker, said sounded just like the ladies’ signature hit from the 1990s.
Bottoms defeated Mary Norwood, who was accused of being an undercover Republican supported by President Trump.
Race became a central factor in the contest, especially after a secret recording was released in which Norwood referred to a group of Black voters as “thugs” and “felons”.
Norwood claimed the tape was doctored, but offered no proof.
Bottoms is Black; Norwood is White.
Norwood demanded a recount after it became clear she had lost, but a re-tally of the votes actually resulted in Bottoms’ lead increasing.
