Mary J. Blige Earns TWO Oscar Nominations For “Mudbound” Film

Our Lady of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, has earned herself two Oscar nominations this year: one for playing the role of Florence Jackson, matriarch of a Mississippi family struggling to survive against the grips of violent racism and poverty in the Jim Crow, pre-civil rights era Delta region.

Blige is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for the role of which she received widespread praise.

The nomination pits Blige  up against another fan favorite, Octavia Spencer, who is nominated for her role in the film The Shape of Water.

And the other nomination for Blige is for Best Original Song. Blige sang and wrote the song “Mighty River,” which is featured in the film.

Mudbound is Blige’s fifth film. She previously appeared in the films Prison Song, Rock of Ages, Black Nativity and has guest-starred on Empire and How to Get Away With Murder.
