Here’s a throwback from the biggest rap duo ever: Outkast, the Atlanta-born and bred twosome of Andre “3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton.
The rappers put together Outkast in 1991 while both were students at East Point, Georgia’s renowned Tri-Cities High School, which is 8 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.
Neither could imagine they would soon become one of music’s best-selling and most iconic performers ever.
Outkast have appeared in films, on TV, have sold millions of records, and earned dozens of awards and nominations ranging from Soul Train awards, to Grammys, to MTV Europe awards.
Along the way, Outkast became trendsetters in not just music, but fashion as well. They also helped usher in a renaissance of Black Southern culture, slang and musical appreciation.
Outkast never officially broke up but went on a sort of hiatus in 2007 and fans were heartbroken.
Since then, both Big Boi and Dre 3000 have dropped sporadic tracks but no official Outkast album has been released.
Fans of Outkast have petitioned the NFL to book the duo to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl, which will be held in Atlanta.
Big Boi is currently on The Daddy Fat Saxxx Tour, which has sold out in a number of cities.
