A Tallahassee mom is accused of driving down to Gainesville with some shoplifting on her mind. But what she ended up with, according to The Gainesville Sun, is more than half a dozen charges–included among them, 4 felonies.
Cavetta Ladon Corbett, 47, is currently in the Alachua County Jail on $110,000 bond.
Cops say Corbett wasn’t being very clever with her boosting because they received a 911 call informing them that she had just taken some things from a store at the Oaks Mall without paying, and was clearly about to vamoose.
When cops tried to stop Corbett, they say she immediately punched it, driving at a high rate of speed through the parking lot, crashing into three different vehicles during her failed bid to escape.
Sadly, she did all of this with precious cargo on board: Two children.
Even more sadly, cops who approached the car after the calamity had ended, saw a heartbreaking scene: one of the children holding onto the other child, who was strapped in a car seat.
Thankfully, the kids were reportedly not hurt.
The store where the alleged theft took place, American Eagle, declined to press charges.
Meanwhile, Gainesville cops charged Corbett with 2 counts of Cruelty Toward A Child, Fleeing and Eluding, Possession Of an Anti-Shoplifting Control Device (whatever that is) and 3 counts of misdemeanor hit and run.
