Republican Lawmaker Links Porn To School Shootings

In the wake of an increasing number of deadly school shootings, some people are calling for gun control, while some others are saying gun control is not the answer.

Right now, no one seems to know what’s causing the increase in deadly mass shootings–or how to prevent them.

But one Republican lawmaker in Tennessee thinks she knows why it’s all happening in the first place: because of porn.

“What makes them do that? Because as a nurse, I go back to root causes,” Black offered, before pointing to the Internet, violent movies, and porn as sources for the senseless mass killings that are occurring far too often in the U.S.

In all fairness, U.S. Rep. Diane Black also blamed the breakdown of the family support system.

But its the porn link that got Black the national headlines.

Black also bemoaned the fact that she says porn is too widely available, especially, she says, at the grocery store.

According to her, getting porn is just as simple as reaching for a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch at your neighborhood Winn-Dixie or Piggly Wiggly.

“Pornography, it’s available, it’s available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store,” Rep. Diane Black said during a listening session with ministers at Safe Harbor of Clarksville, Tenn., according to HuffPost.

“Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there’s pornography there. All of this is available without parental guidance,” she said. “And I think that is a big part of the root cause that we see so many young people that have mental illness get caught in these places.”

Black did not say what specifically about porn she believed drove people to homicidal killing sprees.

Not surprisingly, her comments have been widely ridiculed.

Black is running for Tennessee governor.
