Chicago rapper Chief Keef was shot at early Saturday while outside his New York City hotel, according to reports.
Two Black males wearing dark-colored hoodies were reportedly observed fleeing the scene. Reports indicate a single casing was found and that the bullet hit hotel signage–close to where Keef had been standing.
According to TMZ, Keef has been beefing, via social media, with New York rapper Tekashi69, whose crew allegedly got into a brief gunfire exchange with members of Fetty Wap’s crew out in L.A., where Tekashi is said to be presently.
Police are investigating the New York incident. TMZ reports that police do not believe Tekashi has any involvement in the shooting.
Nevertheless, some fans worry that what seems like an attempted Keef assassination is a sign of a deadly return to the days when rap beef turned to lethal street violence, as in the shocking killings of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G. in the 1990s–two murders that today remain unsolved.
