Wendy Williams Discusses Her Son’s Drug Addiction

Wendy Williams knows what its like to battle drug addiction: the talk show super diva is a recovering cocaine addict herself. But she says she was horrified when she discovered that her son, Kevin, Jr., had turned to smoking marijuana–specifically, the sometimes lethally dangerous synthetic variety, K2.

Wendy opened up to ET about it recently.

“Our son, three years ago, he’s 17 now, he just graduated from high school, he’s leaving for college in September, but three years ago he smoked K2,” Wendy explained. “Now this is a drug, we see it on the news, people are walking around like zombies”.

Wendy said drug use had turned her son into someone she “didn’t even know”, and she said she instantly noticed the changes.

“Immediately, immediately. It zaps your brain immediately.”

But Wendy says she and her husband Kevin were able to turn Kevin, Jr. around.

Wendy’s family is lucky: K2 use is considered a nationwide epidemic that has been linked to permanent diminished mental capacity, severe illness and even death.

Wendy herself battled addiction for years, and she’s very upfront about it. She refers to herself as a former “functioning addict” who maintained a job and held herself and her family down–while also struggling with a monster addiction.

“I would report to work on time and I walked in and all of my co-workers, and including my bosses, would know, but instead of firing me, you see, I would grab my headphones and arrogantly walk into the studio and dare them to fire me because I was making ratings.”

The popular and highly rated Wendy Williams Show is preparing for its tenth season.
