It took plenty of years, but New Orleans rap superstar Lil Wayne finally dropped his long-awaited ‘Carter V’ album.
The release came at midnight and the rapper’s multitude of fans were elated.
The album includes features from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Snoop Dogg, and also frequent collaborator Nicki Minaj, 2000s diva Ashanti, and baby mama Nivea.
The album also includes vocals from Florida rapper XXXTentacion, who was slain earlier this year in a fatal armed robbery.
Production includes tracks from Mannie Fresh, Swizz Beatz, Metro Boomin, Ben Billions and others.
Weezy first promised Tha Carter V was coming back in 2012. Since then, he’s seen his protege, Drake, become arguably a bigger act than himself, but he’s also put beef with his own mentor, Birdman, behind him: the two moguls recently reached a settlement after years of strife over finances and music.
The confidential settlement reportedly granted Wayne full ownership of the Young Money label, and paved the way for the official drop of Carter V.
