Rapper Kanye West visited the White House today for lunch with President Donald Trump.
It had been widely reported that the two would discuss prison reform, something Trump claimed in a recent interview is such a priority for him that he would overrule his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who is a staunch opponent of reform, and whom Trump is reportedly ready to fire anyway.
Let’s keep it 100: This meeting was destined to be a fail anyway because Kanye frequently appears unable to understand serious issues, such as the need for prison reform, let alone articulate them in a coherent way.
That same thing has been said about the Prez as well.
Sooooo, the end result or even the actual point of the Kanye/Trump summit is unclear, but the media was there to see what some say is the rapper’s latest shucking and jiving routine for the Republican Commander-In-Chief.
West did, however, in his lengthy rant to Trump, request clemency for Larry Hoover, a revered Hip Hop figure who is serving multiple life sentences after a 17 year federal criminal investigation his supporters have said was the result of a framing and cover-up by law enforcement.
Its unclear where Trump stands on pardoning Hoover.
Meanwhile, Black Twitter wasn’t having what some have called a surreal media-heavy meeting of two peculiarly kindred spirits:
Kanye West is EXACTLY how people who benefit from the system of white supremacy like to see Black men. Groveling, buck dancing, confused, incoherent, and subservient— Tariq Nasheed (@tariqnasheed) October 11, 2018
y’all talk all this shit about Kanye every time he on his coon shit but soon as he mention new music y’all jump back on his dick… ya need to stop supporting him all together clothes and all— Rondo Bryant (@BullHunitProof) October 11, 2018
Watching @CNN, seeing Kanye at the White House this afternoon was some of the saddest stuff I’ve seen in quite sometime. Not gonna go OFF, though. I’m just sad. I’ll leave it to y’all to state the obvious as to why.— Stephen A Smith (@stephenasmith) October 11, 2018
What in the world is wrong with Kanye???????— Cyn Santana (@Cyn_Santana) October 11, 2018
