Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who by virtue of her testimony before a Republican-controlled Senate judiciary committee last week has become the face and voice of sexual assault victims in America, is now featured on this week’s cover of Time Magazine.
Ford has accused Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a house party in 1982. Kavanaugh has denied that allegation, along with accusations that he drank heavily in college, which he seemed to deny while testifying under oath.
Democrats and women’s rights advocates have strongly supported Ford and sought to derail the nomination of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, while Republicans, led by President Trump, have sought to discredit and attack Ford while claiming Kavanaugh is the victim of a smear campaign.
The magazine cover does not actually feature Ford’s face, but the cover photo is molded in the image of Ford taking an oath as she prepared to testify. The image includes phrases and terms she used during her testimony, such as “anxiety”, haunted me”, and “my fears”.
Today, Republican leaders have indicated they will move forward to confirm Kavanaugh after receiving results from a brief FBI probe that Democrats have labeled incomplete.
Democratic voters and women are expected to enjoy higher than average turnout during next month’s midterm elections.
