Atlanta rapper Ty Dolla $ign was recently indicted on felony drug charges stemming from a September arrest.
Cops reportedly pulled over a van in which several people, including Ty and EDM DJ Skrillex, were travelling. k-9 officers reportedly searched the van and turned up a duffle bag with drugs in it that Ty, government name Tyrone Griffin, allegedly claimed was his.
Dolla $ign was arrested, charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Less Than An Ounce of Marijuana, and Possession and Use of Drug Related Objects and later bonded out on $6,000 bail.
Though blog and media headlines are claiming the rapper faces decades behind bars, the truth is he is unlikely to spend another night in jail, unless prosecutors decide to make an example out of him. That’s because Georgia revamped its criminal code several years ago and possession of cocaine is considered a low-level offense in the state that rarely generates prison time.
And the city of Atlanta earlier this year reduced the punishment for weed possession to a $75 fine and no jail time.
Ty Dolla $ign’s attorneys have said their client is innocent.
