Taraji Henson Wins Golden Globe Award, Has Message For ‘Empire’ Critics

One of our favorite stars, Empire actress Taraji P. Henson, won the Golden Globe award last night for Best Actress In A Television Drama and had this to say about finally winning the trophy for her first time:

“It’s amazing,” she said of her snagging her first Golden Globe. “I always ask God to please let me cross cultures and color. I never wanted to be known as an African-American actress or an American actress, so when you say Hollywood Foreign Press, to me that means my talent, my gift, my craft has reached beyond the borders of where I was born, and that means more to me than any trophy, but I love the trophy. But that’s what it represents.”–People

Henson also took on critics of her show, some of whom claim the show’s content is overly gay. Henson says neither she nor the show’s cast and crew is worried about the criticism:

“We ignore that. That’s nonsense and that’s fear, so we understand where that’s coming from, so there’s nothing to comment on that. The numbers speak for themselves,” she said of Empire‘s ratings.–People

When asked how she planned to celebrate her long overdue victory, Henson responded she planned to hit the club and listen to some “trap music”.
