California Wildfires Rage On: At Least 17 DEAD, Including A 100 Year Old Man and His Wife; Arson Suspected

The wildfires destroying portions of northern California’s celebrated wine country are still blazing–and in their wake, at least 17 people are confirmed dead.

New evacuations were underway Tuesday night as officials say more than a dozen wildfires are raging at the same time, putting an expanding area in danger.

One fire fighting authority said the likelihood of lightning causing the fires is “fairly minimal”. Arson is suspected as being the cause of the wildfires.

It is too early to tell whether any of the wildfires were started by humans, said Ken Pimlott, director of Cal Fire. “All these fires are under investigation,” he told reporters, adding that his department was focusing on rescues and firefighting. But he said the chance the fires were caused by lightning was “fairly minimal.”–CNN

Two of the people who died in the Napa county fires were ID’d as being a 100-year-old man and his 98-year-old wife.
