Flashback Fridays…The Poison Clan: Shake Whatcha Mama Gave Ya

Before Atlanta completed its takeover of the Southern Sound in Hip Hop, and eventually Hip Hop completely, there were groups from The Bottom who were filling up dance floors, blasting from car cassette players, and booming from radio stations.

Pre-Trick Daddy and Trina, the Florida Sound was dominated by Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami with names like 2 Live Crew, 69 Boyz, 95 South, Splack pack, DJ Magic Mike, and The Poison Clan calling shots.

It was the so-called Booty or Bass Music era of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

One of the all-time classics from that time period is Poison Clan’s “Shake Whatcha Mama Gave Ya”.

Poison Clan, fronted by JT Money, originated in Miami in the late 1980s and was signed to Luther Campbell’s Luke Records from 1990-1995, and dropped a total of 4 albums within that time span, although the group’s line-up changed several times.

JT Money eventually left for a solo career.

Please be advised: as with many songs from the sub-genre, this one has plenty of cuss words.
