Homeless Vet, Philly Couple Made Up Story To Get GoFundMe Cash: All Three Now Face Criminal Charges

The homeless vet who supposedly offered up his last $20 to help a stranded motorist afford gas is facing criminal charges that accuse him, the female motorist, and her dude of concocting the story in order to bilk kindhearted GoFundMe contributors out of nearly half a million dollars, according to reports.

Prosecutors believe that Mark D’Amico and Kate McClure conspired with homeless manJohnny Bobbitt to create their get-rich-quick scheme in 2017, NBC’s Philadelphia affiliate reported Wednesday.

The couple turned themselves in to authorities Wednesday, but Bobbitt was still at large, the news station said.–New York Post

The feel-good story went viral. But now, all three face charges of conspiracy and theft by deception.

The ish hit the fan and the story began to crumble after Bobbitt claimed the couple was withholding funds from him. But the couple claimed they were rationing funds to Bobbitt only because he allegedly allocated most of the cash he had already received from the account on drugs and his crackhead friends.

The trio could face state prison time if convicted.
