Gators Basketball Star Keyontae Johnson Stable and Communicating, Parents Share

Prayers went up across the nation when Florida Gators basketball star Keyontae Johnson horrifyingly collapsed mid-game earlier this month, with reports for several days indicating a potentially dire outcome for the 21 year old small forward.

But prayer changes things, as the old saying goes, and Johnson’s parents, Nika and Marrecus, shared in a social media post issued by the Twitter page belonging to the Florida Gators Men’s Basketball team that their son is now stable, breathing on his own and communicating.

In the post, Nika and Marrecus Johnson cautioned that media reports concerning their son’s condition are not to be automatically believed, and that statements coming only from them or the team’s athletic department should be considered accurate. Media reports had indicated that Keyontae was placed in a medically induced coma soon after he was hospitalized.

Over the summer, it was also reported that several members of the team had contracted the deadly Covid virus. Reportedly, Keyonate was among those who contracted it.

Its unclear what caused the 6 foot 5 athlete’s collapse, or the need for him to subsequently be hospitalized.
